disappointing experience but some potential
The superior double room I stayed in provided a pleasant garden view that was refreshing. The room was also spacious, giving me enough privacy for my solo journey.
The photos did not match reality.

My daughter and I had a very pleasant stay at 717. Our suite - Van Goethe - was spacious and comfortable and elegantly decorated. The only downside was the steep staircase leading to our room but the staff were helpful in assisting us with our bags and were also happy to bring tea and biscuits on a tray at our convenience. Breakfast was also offered in the Stravinsky Room which was light and airy. The warm croissants and bread rolls were delicious and the boiled eggs were perfect. The public spaces were delightful - exquisite decor and the gentle strains of classical music. This is a quiet hotel. Definitely not suited for raucous stag night parties! It was a lovely place to bring my young daughter. She particularly enjoyed the Dutch biscuits served with drinks on request!
I had a problem accessing the Internet late at night. The hotel provides a password to access their free wifi service but the system had stalled. The assistant manager assured me that there is a 24hr reception service, so theoretically I could gave called down and asked for a reset! As mentioned, the stairs here are narrow and a little rickety. The house is listed so an elevator isn't possible. Guests with mobility issues should be aware of this.

Beautiful hotel with pleasant stuff from check-in to check-out and neat and very specious rooms. Exceptionally comfortable beds, a mini-bar, climate control, and a personal safe in the room...

Here's my take on it
This charming hotel offers an authentic Amsterdam experience with friendly staff ready to assist. The central location makes exploring easy, with museums and cafes within walking distance. Just be mindful of steep stairs if you have mobility concerns and breakfast options could use improvement.

The beautifully restored building provides a homely atmosphere, and the room was elegantly furnished with high-quality linens. Breakfast included a range of creative dishes that were good and well-presented. The steep stairs can be challenging for those not accustomed to climbing, and the air conditioning was outdated and often required manual intervention. Despite these issues, the hotel staff were helpful, accommodating luggage transport, and responded graciously by offering complimentary breakfast for the inconvenience of the air conditioning.

The location and common areas were lovely
We were in room 8. The loo was tiny - luckily we are both thin. Anyone over 6 feet tall or 12 stone would stuggle to sit on it.

Charming decor and cozy atmosphere in the Little Prince Courtyard View room. Steep stairs made it tough to navigate. Enjoyed exploring nearby attractions and renting bikes from the hotel. Could use better communication about breakfast costs.
